Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves

price per head sportsbookThe start of a 10-game homestand didn't go as planned for the Atlanta Braves and they'll try to regroup Thursday in the opener of a four-game series versus the Cincinnati Reds at Turner Field.

The Braves dropped two of three matchups with the NL East-rival Washington Nationals and suffered a 13-4 loss Wednesday. One night after blowing a big lead and losing 13-12, the Braves came up empty the entire middle portion.

Jordan Zimmermann does it all for Nationals

Zimmermann turned in an excellent effort on the mound, going seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts. But he was also a force at the plate, giving Washington the lead for good with a three-run double in the fourth inning. Zimmerman is now 6-2 with a 3.11 ERA in 12 career starts vs. Atlanta.

Atlanta bullpen lit up again

Braves starter Alex Wood wasn't exactly good, allowing five runs in five innings to suffer his first loss of the year. However, the Atlanta bullpen fell apart for the second straight night, surrendering 8 runs over the final four innings. Rookie John Cornelyallowed four runs in the eight inning in his major-league debut. Former Brave Dan Uggla drove in two more runs, finishing the series 5-for-11 with two triples, a home run and 8 RBIs.

Braves' rotation shake-up could be coming

Atlanta right-hander Trevor Cahill was originally scheduled to start Friday's home game against Cincinnati, but pitched two innings of relief on Thurday (allowing four runs). That means top Braves pitching prospect Mike Foltynewicz could be headed up to the majors. Foltynewicz, acquired from Houston in the Evan Gattis trade, is 0-3 with a 2.08 ERA and 30 strikeouts in four starts at Triple-A Gwinnett this season.

The Reds went 2-5 against the Braves last season, losing the first five meetings between the ballclubs.
