The 2015 World Series continues Friday night with the New York Mets hosting the Kansas City Royals, who are up two games, at 7 p.m. CT at Citi Field in Flushing, N.Y.

The Kansas City Royals are flying high after defeating the New York Mets‘ two best pitchers in Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom in Kansas City. However, the series shifts to Queens for the next three games, and the Mets believe they can right the ship, especially considering the last Mets team to win the World Series also got off to an 0-2 start.

The New York Mets looked poised to even the World Series at a game apiece with Jacob deGrom looking untouchable through four innings before the wheels fell off in the 5th. DeGrom was touched for four runs on six hits and three bases on ball over five frames to absorb the loss. Jonathan Niese gave up three runs in the 7th on three hits and a BB and the Mets were not going to rally versus the Royals bullpen. The New York offense was quiet for most of the night with just two hits and three free passes. Lucas Duda went 2-3 with an RBI single that scored Daniel Murphy who walked but that was the extent of the scoring. The Mets turn to rookie Noah Syndergaard to get the Mets in the win column on Friday. Syndergaard has appeared in two playoff games with four runs plated on nine hits and 18 strikeouts over 12 innings.

The Kansas City Royals appeared to be hung over from the game one 14 inning marathon with zero offense over four innings in game two Wednesday before a four run 5th inning paved the way for a 7-1 victory and 2-0 series lead versus the Mets. Starter Johnny Cueto was beyond good with the lone run plated on two hits and three BB in a complete game performance. The offense didn’t waste the effort with a ten hit, four walk attack that saw Alcides Escobar and Eric Hosmer log two hits, two RBI’s and a run while Alex Gordon drove in a run and scored twice. Kansas City hands the ball to Yordano Ventura for game three of the World Series. Ventura is coming off his best postseason performance where he allowed a run over 5.1 frames in a 4-3 victory versus Toronto.

The Royals have been able to neutralize the Mets’ starters by putting the ball in play and taking advantage of New York’s mistakes. New York could be in trouble if Syndergaard struggles like deGrom did, but the Mets should be able to score off Ventura. The series would be tied if Jeurys Familia didn’t blow a save, and it isn’t likely that the closer will give up another lead if given the opportunity.
