NBA: New York Knicks at Houston Rockets

The Rockets welcome the Knicks to Toyota Center tonight in the third game of this 5-game homestand. Before these games started I assume the Rockets would have shot for 5-0, been ecstatic with 4-1, been okay with 3-2, and would have been pissed with anything less than that. The Knicks took on the winless Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden and handed them their 13th consecutive lose to start the season. While the Houston Rockets battled their Texas Rivals, the Dallas Mavericks, and got their 10th win of the season with a 95-92 victory.

The Rockets were without their star center Dwight Howard, who is still dealing with some knee issues and is doubtful against the New York Knicks Monday night. Houston's other star player had a big game against Dallas, dropping 32 points in 37 minutes and going 8-of-18 from the field, making four out of nine three-point shots and got to the free throw line for a game-high 13 times, making 12 of them. Patrick Beverley chipped in with 20 points, helping the Rockets get the win.

The New York Knicks welcomed back Jose Calderon, who made his season debut against the Philadelphia 76ers. Coach Derek Fisher didn't waste any time putting Calderon in the starting lineup, playing him 21 minutes in his first game as a Knick. Carmelo Anthony played very well again, shooting 50 percent from the field with 25 points and was a game-high plus-20 in his 38 minutes of action. Amar'e Stoudemire played just under 20 minutes but had a very productive game, achieving a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Stoudemire is feeling very spry, as he is finally healthy this season and is playing a good role for the Knicks off the bench. Shane Larkin did not play (coach's decision) after being thrust into the starting line up with Calderon missing the first 13 games of the season.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (4-10): New York's success is highly dependent on Anthony (23.9 points, 5.7 rebounds), who averages nearly twice as many field-goal attempts than any of his teammates. The Knicks have had good and bad news on the injury front recently, as Jose Calderon (calf) made his season debut against the Sixers but 7-footer Andrea Bargnani remains sidelined. Bargnani has been out with a hamstring injury and was close to coming back before suffering a strained calf in practice Friday.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (10-3): Harden (24.4 points, 6.7 assists, 6.4 rebounds) has been good enough to carry Houston through some injury woes, and newcomer Trevor Ariza (13.9 points, 5.6 rebounds) has been a solid addition at both ends of the floor. Howard (18.8 points, 11.3 rebounds) has missed the past two games with a strained right knee, a big blow to an already thin frontcourt with forward Terrence Jones (14 points, 7.5 rebounds) sidelined with a leg injury. Point guard Patrick Beverley (hamstring) also missed practice Sunday but expects to play after matching his career high with 20 points against Dallas.
