The Detroit Lions preseason will officially wrap up following Tonight’s game vs. the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium in upstate Buffalo, New York.

Due to the fact that it is the last preseason game for Detroit, we wont expect to see a lot of action, if any at all, from star players such as Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford  and Ndamukong Suh . Instead, a very large emphasis will be put of the guys that the coaches are still evaluating prior to the final roster cut on August 30th. 22 players will be cut that day as the Lions trim down to the league maximum 53 players.

A lot of good and possibly even deserving players may not make the team, so it is extremely important for those players on the roster bubble to make a lasting impact before it is too late.

Things to watch in tonight’s preseason game

Catching on: The Lions have a handful of roster spots still up for grabs, including at wide receiver where Ryan Broyles, Kris Durham, Kevin Ogletree and Corey Fuller are fighting for two or three jobs.

For ‘Shoure: Mikel Leshoure, a former second-round pick like Broyles, could be playing his last game in Detroit. Leshoure is second on the team with 98 yards rushing on 23 carries this preseason

Head Hunter: Tahir Whitehead is expected to make his second straight start at strongside linebacker. Whitehead starred with 10 tackles and three sacks last week against the Jaguars, he could earn a start in next week’s opener with another good game tonight.

Familiar face: Former Lions coach Jim Schwartz is now roaming the Buffalo Bills sideline as defensive coordinator, and several of his old players said they’re anxious to see Schwartz for the first time since he was fired.

Finely tuned: Matthews Stafford wasn’t crisp in his dress rehearsal for the regular season last week, and he won’t be on the field long tonight. Stafford will play about a series, and Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush might not play at all.
