The New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers will meet this Friday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to compete in an unofficial dress rehearsal for the regular season.

The New England Patriots head to Carolina for the first time since the Panthers' controversial Monday Night Football win in November 2013 (famous for the pass interference no-call on Rob Gronkowski).

This time around, there will be much less on the line. Even so, it's preseason Game 3, which means that the Patriots' starters will be playing a little longer than normal.

New England enters week three coming off of a comeback victory against New Orleans in week two after dropping their week one battle against the Packers. Carolina on the other hand enter the third week of the preseason at a perfect 2-0 with wins against two other AFC East teams, Miami and Buffalo.

The first half of the New England vs Carolina meeting will show off starting quarterbacks Tom Brady and Cam Newton more so than any game this preseason

Despite a looming suspension hanging over his head for Deflategate, quarterback Tom Brady is expected to get a significant amount of snaps in this one. Through two preseason games, Brady has been on the field for 16 snaps across five offensive drives. In that time, New England's offense has sputtered to four three-and-outs and Brady has completed just three-of-nine pass attempts for 23 yards. That's not what you want to see from the future Hall of Famer or an offense expected to compete for a second-straight Super Bowl trophy.

On the other side, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will face a tough test tonight as he continues to try and adjust to life without star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin whose season was ended by a torn ACL. Carolina's offense looked stunted last week without Benjamin, failing to record a single first down anjd gaining just eight yards in the first quarter.

Newton will have to quickly develop a rapport with second-round rookie wide receiver Devin Funchess. Funchess has been dealing with a hamstring injury this preseason but is expected to return tonight. He and tight end Greg Olsen will be depended upon to pick up the slack left in the wake of Benjamin's injury
