Davon House to have season-ending shoulder surgery

The Green Bay Packers are losing veteran cornerback Davon House.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Packers will be placing House on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

The news comes in light of the Packers hosting a bevy of defensive free agents for visits today, most notably cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland and David Amerson.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, House needs season-ending surgery on his shoulder.

Demovsky also reports the Packers are expected to sign at least one cornerback.

Signed to a one-year deal this spring, House delivered a disappointing start to the 2018 season, his second since leaving Green Bay in 2015. He looks to have lost a step in coverage. Although he’s played only 29 snaps on defense, his presence has clearly been felt when on the field, evidenced best by Stefon Diggs’ 75-yard touchdown with House trailing in coverage in Week 2. He was flagged for pass interference in the Packers’ loss to Washington on Sunday.

House has also garnered an egregious rating of 28.8 from Pro Football Focus, the second-lowest in the NFL among all qualified cornerbacks in 2018.

House, an eight-year veteran, was dealing with a shoulder injury he suffered last season. He aggravated it earlier this season and played just four snaps in Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins.

The team will sign cornerback Bashaud Breeland to replace House, according to multiple outlets.

Breeland spent the past four seasons with the Redskins and initially signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. But the deal was voided when he failed his physical due to a foot injury.

Breeland had eight interceptions in 60 games (58 starts) with Washington.

The Packers also have another injured cornerback, Kevin King. Last year's top draft pick missed Sunday's game at Washington because of a groin injury.

The Packers will also have a roster spot open when they place defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson on injured reserve because of the ankle injury he sustained Sunday at Washington.
