Dez Bryant to meet with Browns on Thursday

Free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant will reportedly meet with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, according to Dianna Russini of ESPN.

"If he wants to be here, then obviously we're open arms and we'd love to have him," Browns wideout Jarvis Landry said of Bryant on Monday, per the Associated Press. "He'd be a great addition to our team and our offense—for sure."

As for what Bryant could add to the Browns, Landry cited "attitude."

"Obviously, effort," he continued. "You look at the plays he's making down the field, underneath. He can really do it all—given the opportunities. I think [offensive coordinator Todd Haley] would do a great job of getting him the ball if he was here, but if not, then we got guys who can make plays too."

Adding Bryant would be another step for a wide receiver group that was a weakness in 2017 but could be among the biggest strengths on the team this season. Landry has been impressive thus far in training camp. Josh Gordon is an elite playmaker when he's on the field, though he's currently away from the team. Rookie Antonio Callaway has shown flashes, though off-field issues remain a concern.

Bryant would round out that group nicely, giving the team a dangerous red-zone threat to go along with Landry's playmaking as an underneath receiver and Gordon's ability to take the top off a defense as a deep threat.

While Bryant is no longer amongst the NFL's elite at the position and—his 69 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns in 2017 were disappointing marks—he's still a capable player and one who would bring experience to Cleveland's offense.

"It's a discussion," Browns head coach Hue Jackson said regarding the possibility of adding Bryant to the wide receivers group, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. "We have a lot of good things going, but at the same time I don't think you can ever have too many good football players as long as they fit and as long as it's the right fit for the organization, for the locker room and for all involved."
