Jets bring back kicker Catanzaro

The Jets have signed kicker Chandler Catanzaro for a second stint with the team after allowing Pro Bowl selection Jason Myers to leave as a free agent.

Catanzaro spent the 2017 season with New York and set the franchise record with a 57-yard field goal. He signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent last off-season before finishing the year with Carolina.

The 28-year-old Catanzaro spent his first three NFL seasons with Arizona and has a career field-goal percentage of 83.8.

Myers became the first Jets kicker to make the Pro Bowl last season, but New York opted to not re-sign him. He signed with Seattle on Wednesday.

They were interested in re-signing Myers, who became the first kicker in Jets history to make the Pro Bowl, but they weren't willing to pay anywhere close to what he received from the Seattle Seahawks - a four-year contact for $15.45 million, including $7 million in guarantees.

In addition, the Jets formally announced the signings of linebacker CJ Mosley, wide receiver Jamison Crowder and wide receiver Josh Bellamy.

Bellamy had 14 catches for 177 yards and a touchdown for the Bears in 2018.

Catanzaro converted 83% of his field goal attempts with the Jets in 2017, and made 100% of his extra points. Last year was a bit of a down year for Catanzaro, as he converted on 80% of his field goal attempts, including misses on all three of his attempts between 40 and 49 yards, and he converted on just 86% of his extra point attempts.

For his career Catanzaro has converted on 84% of his field goal attempts, including 10 out of 16 from 50 yards and beyond, and he has converted on 93% of his extra point attempts. Catanzaro has one of the stronger legs in the league, an attribute the Jets have coveted during the Mike Maccagnan era.
