Matt Duffy placed on DL with strained right hamstring

The Tampa Bay Rays have put third baseman Matt Duffy on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring.

He was hurt running the bases in Monday's 8-4 win over the Texas Rangers. He describes the injury as a mild strain that will take about five days to a week to heal.

Duffy left Monday's game against the Rangers with what was initially described as hamstring tightness. It's now being described as a hamstring strain, and he'll be out a minimum of 10 days.

Duffy missed all of last season because of Achilles' tendon surgery and a heel injury.

Duffy's three seasons with the Rays have been marred by injury. He's played 36 games with Tampa Bay since being acquired from the San Francisco Giants at the 2016 trade deadline and missed all of last season with a heel injury that required multiple surgeries.

In 15 games this year, Duffy has hit .267 with one home run and seven RBIs.

Veteran infielder Brandon Snyder was selected from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. To make room for Snyder on the 40-man roster, the Rays transferred outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (ligament tear in right thumb) to the 60-day disabled list.

Snyder, 31, is in the Rays' lineup batting sixth and playing third base Tuesday. The former first-round pick hit .154 (4-for-26) in eight games with Durham this season and last played in the major leagues with the Atlanta Braves in 2016. Snyder owns a .242 career batting average in parts of five seasons in the majors.

The Rays have a new face in the bullpen as well, with RHP Hunter Wood called up from Durham to replace Chih-Wei Hu and add another fresh arm to the bullpen. He made a single appearance last season, facing one batter on May 30 and throwing five pitches and getting an out against the Rangers.
