Pau Gasol, Blazers reach 1 year deal

Pau Gasol agreed to a one-year deal with the Blazers on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The six-time All-Star will enter his 18th NBA season in 2019-20. Gasol averaged a career-low 3.9 points and 12 minutes per game last season and appeared in just three games with the Bucks after a trade deadline deal shipped him out of San Antonio.

Portland enters 2019-20 looking to keep pace in a star-studded Western Conference. The Blazers advanced to the Western Conference finals last year before getting swept by Steph Curry and the Warriors.

Gasol was drafted with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft. He played seven seasons for both the Grizzlies and Lakers and won back-to-back titles with Los Angeles.

The Spanish center is one of four international players in NBA history to tally 20,000 points and 11,000 rebounds in his career.

Gasol underwent a procedure on his left foot in May. He told Wojnarowski earlier this month that he expects to be fully cleared for basketball activities in early August.

"My recovery from surgery has been smooth," he said. "I cannot wait to start training again."

Gasol was limited to just 30 games last season because of ankle and foot injuries, but he's just a year removed from averaging starting 63 games for the Spurs, and averaging 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game.

A six-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion, Gasol has averaged 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 1,226 career games with the Grizzlies, Lakers, Bulls, Spurs and Bucks.

Gasol paired with Kobe Bryant to win two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

Gasol has an impressive resume that consists of two championships, multiple All-Star nods and gold medals. The center joins the sixth team of his career. While he is getting older and has a reduced role, he can still contribute to a talented team.
