Sergio Aguero involved in car crash

English soccer team Manchester City will assess star player Sergio Aguero Friday after the Argentine was involved in a car crash. Aguero was in Amsterdam on Thursday attending a concert by Colombian singer Maluma when the taxi he was traveling in collided with a pole. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters that his initial impressions were that the striker had broken a rib.

"Aguero has had an accident in Amsterdam and he will be back after that," said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss. Guardiola said he had not yet spoken to the player, adding: "I have been preparing training. I will speak to him today. First impression is he has broken his rib."

Dutch police also confirmed that two people were injured and taken to hospital but would not reveal the names of the pair. Pictures appeared in the Argentine press of the taxi wrapped around a metal pole and it is believed his injuries would have been far more severe had he not been wearing a seatbelt. The striker could miss between six to eight weeks with the injury meaning he will miss crucial games, including this weekend’s clash at the top with champions Chelsea and Argentina’s key pair of World Cup qualifiers next week. It is the second major setback for Manchester City in the last few days after summer signing Benjamin Mendy injured his knee and faces a long time on the sidelines.

Aguero, 29, had started the season impressively, scoring seven goals in eight appearances to move within one of equalling Eric Brook's club record 177. Aguero was reported by Spanish sports newspaper AS to have told Argentinian station Radio Metro: "The taxi driver did not see the curve and skidded. And when he skidded, we hit the pole. I broke my rib, now I'm resting. It hurts me badly. I'll be discharged in a little while."

Aguero is understood to have been hurt when the taxi came off the road and hit a post. He was treated in hospital and was due to arrive back in Manchester for further assessment by club medical staff on Friday afternoon.

Guardiola said he did not know how long he would be without his most prolific forward but he would definitely miss the leaders' Premier League trip to champions Chelsea on Saturday. He said Aguero would also be unavailable for Argentina's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador next month.
