Eagles right guard Brandon Brooks says he tore left Achilles

Months away from the beginning of the 2020 season and the Eagles have already been dealt a devastating blow.

Eagles right guard Brandon Brooks on Monday tore his left Achilles tendon while working out at the NovaCare Complex, according to sources. He will miss the entire 2020 season.

I’m told Brooks knew the severity of the injury right away and was devastated. He injured himself running on a practice field.

“So I guess now that news is out yes I tore my other Achilles but when life gives you lemons you make lemonade,” Brooks wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be back and better than ever. Appreciate the love."

In a cruel twist of fate, the Eagles also wrapped up their virtual offseason program on Monday.

The team had until June 26 to continue with the program after the NFL curbed mandatory minicamp workouts earlier this month.

Brooks is obviously a massive loss for the Eagles’ offensive line, which already needed to make up for the departure of left tackle Jason Peters. Brooks dislocated his shoulder during the Week 17 victory over the Giants in December, and due to the subsequent surgery, he was going through rehabilitation at the team facility where he was injured.

Brooks made a miraculous recovery from Achilles surgery on his right leg last offseason, as he was able to play in Week 1, despite suffering the injury during the playoffs in January. That was an eight-month turnaround for the offensive lineman.

He is likely to be placed on season-ending injured reserve at some point this summer.

Brooks signed a massive four-year, $54.2 million contract extension in November. He received $30 million in new guaranteed money in the deal. That’s a major investment, and Brooks has suffered two major injuries since inking the deal. While he will definitely be back in 2021 due to the guaranteed cash in his deal, the Eagles need to find his heir apparent and fast.
