Jose Carlos Ramirez vs Tomas Mendez

Jose Carlos Ramirez enters this fight with a 17-0 record that includes 12 knockouts. This will be Ramirez’s fifth fight since 2015, and he’s coming off a April win over Manuel Perez. Ramirez is one of the top prospects in the country right now at just 23 years old. Ramirez is coming off his biggest and most impressive win in his young career and is just trying to stay busy as he builds up his resume. Ramirez is an active fighter who throws a lot of punches and knows how to put his opponent away when the chance opens. Ramirez has won seven of his last 11 fights by knockout and does a nice job of working the body. Ramirez could improve defensively and does take a lot of unnecessary hits, but he’s certainly a young boxer to keep an eye on. This will be Ramirez’s seventh fight in California, his birthplace.

Tomas Mendez enters this fight with a 21-7 record that includes 14 knockouts. Mendez has won five of his last seven fights and is coming off a April loss to Evens Pierre. Mendez is a boxer from the Dominican Republic, who has had a hit and miss career and has lost two of his last three fights. Mendez doesn’t have a great resume and has lost all of his big fights, including bouts to Pierre, Eudy Bernardo and Julio De Jesus. There’s not a ton of film out there on Mendez, but he does have some pop in his punches and is willing to trade blows if it means he can get his licks in. Seven of Mendez’s last nine victories have come by knockout. This will be Mendez’s first career fight in the United States.

The only concern for Ramirez in this fight is that he’s boxing a dude with 119 rounds under his belt, so experience is an advantage for the underdog. However, Mendez hasn’t fought a boxer as talented as Ramirez and he still has seven losses on his resume. This is kind of a stay busy fight for the young 23-year-old, and he should be able to get the job done.
