Last night The Colorado Rockies dropped the first game of a four-game set with the Chicago Cubs, 4-1. Surprisingly, Yohan Flande pitched exceptionally well, going past six innings for the first time in five starts. The southpaw gave up two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Colorado is now 0-5 when Yohan Flande starts.

The Cubs will be facing the Colorado Rockies tonight at 8:05 EDT.

Pitching Matchup:

COL: Jorge De La Rosa (11-6, 4.19 ERA)
CHC: Edwin Jackson (5-11, 5.76 ERA)

The last time starting pitcher Edwin Jackson (5-11, 5.76 ERA) took the mound for the Cubs (43-61), he ended up leaving the game after five innings of work against the San Diego Padres.

Jackson was experiencing a little bit of cramping in his pitching hand, or it could have been the fact that he allowed the Padres to plate five runs (all earned) off seven hits in the series finale. So far the month of July hasn’t been too kind to Jackson as he’s allowed a total of 22 earned runs off 34 hits with five home runs, and three losses in five starts  against the Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Padres.

Edwin Jackson has been a nightmare in the Chicago Cubs pitching rotation this season as the righty is currently fifth in the National League in walks with 50 entering tonight’s game. Jackson left after five innings in his last start against the San Diego Padres due to hand cramps. Jackson gave up five runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out four. Edwin would also pick up his 11th loss of the season as he hasn’t won since June 20th against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

De La Rosa on the other hand, is coming off a solid outing against the Washington Nationals, and is currently undefeated in the month of July. The left handed veteran has only allowed five earned runs off 21 hits with no home runs, and 19 strikeouts against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington.

Jorge De La Rosa might or might not be on the move from the Colorado Rockies but the southpaw has pitched up to his ace status his last six times out. De La Rosa hasn’t lost a ballgame since June 18th against the Los Angeles Dodgers which proved to be his worst outing of the season. Jorge dominated in his last start, giving up one earned run on eight hits, walking zero and striking out 11. He picked up his 11th victory of the season as his ERA continues to lower and lower.
