Houston Astros at New York Yankees

Houston Astros at New York Yankees	The Houston Astros still aren’t hitting very well, but the pitching is more than making up for the offensive slump. The Astros will try to take some of the pressure off their pitching staff when they visit the New York Yankees on Monday for the opener of a key three-game series.

Monday: RHP Scott Feldman (5-5, 4.05 ERA) vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi (13-2, 4.24 ERA)
Tuesday: LHP Dallas Keuchel (14-6, 2.37 ERA) vs. RHP Ivan Nova (5-5, 3.72 ERA)
Wednesday: RHP Collin McHugh (13-7, 3.96 ERA) vs. RHP Michael Pineda (9-7, 3.97 ERA)

Nathan Eovaldi won't have that advantage Monday night since New York Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira is unlikely to play in the opener of a three-game home series against the Houston Astros.

Eovaldi (13-2, 4.24 ERA) is second in the majors with a 7.48 run-support average and is 8-0 with a 3.29 ERA in his last 11 starts.

Feldman is 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three outings. He went 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in two 2014 starts versus the Yankees.

Fellow right-hander Eovaldi can move into a tie for the AL lead with his 14th win. He is 5-0 with a 3.46 ERA in 11 home starts.

Eovaldi lasted seven innings for the first time in 12 starts Wednesday and allowed three runs to notch a 4-3 victory over Minnesota. The Houston-born starter gave up two runs in six innings June 26 to earn a 3-2 road victory over the Astros.

Three things to watch in the series:

  1. The Astros hope to improve their road struggles. They are 24-35 away from Minute Maid Park. They are 45-21 at home, and now they must prove they can win away.
  2. Rookie shortstop Carlos Correa, who grew up admiring Yankees superstar shortstop Derek Jeter, will make his first appearance at Yankee Stadium. Correa is arguably the front-runner to win the American League Rookie of the Year award.
  3. Second baseman Jose Altuve has 10 multi-hit games over his last 16 games, hitting .411 (28-for-68) in that span.

Houston leads the American League West by four games over the Texas Rangers after pulling off a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-2 win on Jason Castro’s walk-off homer in the 10th inning on Sunday.

The Yankees dropped a 4-3 decision on Sunday and lost three of four to the Cleveland Indians over the weekend to fall a half-game behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the AL East.
