Rams’ Aqib Talib out at least a month with high ankle sprain

The Rams will be without Aqib Talib for some time.

The Los Angeles cornerback was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and will be sidelined for a month, according to ESPN.

Talib sustained the injury in the second half of the Rams' 35-23 win over the Chargers on Sunday. He was taken back to the locker room and was later seen wearing a walking boot on his left leg.

"Hopefully we'll get him back at some point in time and he'll handle it the right way and do everything he can to get back sooner than later," McVay said about Talib, who will seek a second opinion on his ankle before undergoing surgery. "It is something we anticipate him getting back at some point. When that date would be, it's hard to say right now."

Talib, who was acquired by the Rams from the Broncos in the offseason, has seven tackles and two pass deflections so far this year.

It's bad news for the Rams, who also lost Marcus Peters to a calf strain. While Peters is listed as day-to-day, it's unlikely he will be ready for the Rams' Thursday night game against the Vikings.

It seems likely Los Angeles will be without both of its starting quarterbacks Thursday.

Kirk Cousins is second in the NFL in passing yards (965), while Adam Thielen sits second in both receptions (32) and receiving yards (338). Stefon Diggs, meanwhile, is eight days removed from a nine-reception, 128-yard, two-touchdown performance in a 29-29 tie with the Green Bay Packers.

Looking further ahead, Talib will also miss the Oct. 7 matchup at Seattle and then road games against Denver and San Francisco. His availability may be in doubt for Oct. 28 against Green Bay in Week 8.

At 3-0, Los Angeles is one of four NFL teams still unbeaten. But the lingering injuries to a number of key players put a slight damper on things as the Rams look to get back to the NFL playoffs.
