Iowa basketball instructor Fran McCaffery and his son Patrick, that had a malignant tumor on his thyroid removed 2 weeks ago, were guests of the L.a Clippers for their game Monday evening against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Clippers point guard Chris Paul befriended Patrick, 14, before the operation. Paul called him previously and after the surgery and tweeted out a message of support.
The McCaffery household went to the Clippers' shootaround before Monday's video game, with Patrick playing basketball with Paul and joining the team huddle after practice. After the game, Clippers instructor Doc Rivers welcomed the family members into the storage locker room, and Paul provided Patrick with his game-worn footwears.
" [Paul's] interaction with Patrick has been so real," Fran McCaffery told the Clippers' main website. "When he learnt today that he was visiting shootaround, he hasn't grinned like that in a month. I merely cannot give thanks to Doc and Chris and the Clippers good enough.".
Paul passed the round to Patrick for edge 3-pointers during the shootaround, and he chatted with the point player, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan afterward. Adhering to the Clippers' 114-104 success, Patrick was greeted by higher fives and squeezes in the Clippers' locker area.

The initial plan was for the McCaffery family to make the four-hour trip from Iowa City to Minneapolis merely to check out the video game and comply with Paul after it, however Rivers expanded the invite to shootaround so Patrick can acquire additional time with the team.
