The Tigers conclude their eight-game trip with a shortened interleague road series against the red-hot Cubs, who have won nine of their last 10 and 15 of 17. Despite a 67-win season with one quarter of the season left to play, the Cubs sit third in the NL Central Division and trail the first-place St. Louis Cardinals by 7 1/2 games. However, they own a 3 1/2-game lead for the league's second wild-card slot, and have shown no signs of slowing down the stretch.
