Kansas City Royals at Baltimore Orioles

The Kansas City Royals are in little danger of surrendering their spot atop the American League Central but have not looked playoff-ready of late. The Royals will try to get things turned around when they visit the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

The Baltimore Orioles are coming off of wins in their last two games but it has been a disappointing month for them. The Orioles are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 38-27 at home, and they are 12 games behind the Blue Jays in the American League East. As a team the Orioles are hitting .251 with Manny Machado hitting .290, Adam Jones hitting .272, and Chris Davis hitting .260. The Orioles pitching staff has an ERA of 3.98 with the starters at 4.57 and the bullpen at 2.93. For game one against the Royals the Orioles start Mike Wright who has allowed 38 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 23 over 34.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 5.19 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals have run away with the American League Central and even though they haven’t been playing their best baseball of late they have the best record in the American League. The 26-year-old surrendered a pair of home runs in that outing and a total of three in his last two starts after keeping the ball in the yard in five straight turns. Duffy yielded two runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 5 2/3 innings to beat Baltimore on Aug. 25.Wright (calf) came off the disabled list and started on short rest at Toronto on Saturday after making a rehab start four days earlier. The 25-year-old was limited to four innings and was reached for three runs on seven hits and a walk to absorb the loss. Wright is making his first career appearance against Kansas City and is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA at home in 2015.
