New York will send rookie southpaw and local hero Steven Matz to the hill to make his postseason debut with a chance to clinch an NLCS berth, which should indicate how high the organization is on the 24-year-old phenom. Matz made just six starts in the regular season, going 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA and 1.234 WHIP
Los Angeles is in a terrible spot against Matz, as he typically makes mincemeat of marginal left-handed batters, which to put kindly, the Dodgers’ lineup doesn’t lack. Thus, as long as he’s careful with their main power threat from the right side of the plate in OF Yasiel Puig, he should be able to have a stress-free outing and coast through seven shutout innings.

If the Dodgers are smart, they’ll focus on getting Matz’s pitch-count up early in this one, as the one glaring weakness he’s shown thus far at the MLB level is durability and endurance. Working the count and drawing walks will be paramount.
The Dodgers are sending Clayton Kershaw to the hill in hopes he can salvage their season. Kershaw pitched well in Game 1, giving up just three earned runs over 6.2 innings. Although a solid performance, anyway you slice it, he let MLB sophomore Jacob deGrom outduel him on his home turf, which just isn’t good enough for a pitcher of his caliber.
