The Detroit Tigers hit the road tonight to take on the New York Yankees

Detroit Tigers' Cabrera hits an RBI single in front of New York Yankees catcher Martin during the eighth inning of Game 2 of their MLB ALCS playoff baseball series in New York

The Detroit Tigers hit the road tonight to take on the New York Yankees. The Major League Baseball Odds for the contest have Detroit favored on the road over the Yankees in this American League matchup.

Max Scherzer attempts to become the majors' first 14- game winner tonight when the Detroit Tigers begin a four-game set with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Scherzer won his fifth straight decision on Wednesday against Chicago and had some help, as the Tigers crossed the plate six times in the first inning. He really didn't need all that support, though, and surrendered a run and five hits in seven innings to run his record to 13-3, while lowering his ERA to 3.27.

Detroit made huge noise at the trade deadline by picking up David Price. He's going to throw tomorrow against the Yankees, but in tonight's game the Tigers will send Max Scherzer to the mound. Scherzer, last season's American League Cy Young award winner, has been arguably the best right hander in baseball the last few seasons, racking up strikeouts and stockpiling win

"You have to ignore the scoreboard sometimes, and go out there and just pitch," Scherzer said. "Fortunately, I've had the luxury of pitching in these situations because of this offense that we have. I've found that you need to throw your offspeed almost a little bit more, because their hitters are going up there gearing up for the fastball."

To date this season, Scherzer has 13 wins and his 3.27 ERA. He's posted a 3-1 record against the Yankees the last few seasons in four starts, but has given up 13 earned runs in just over 22 innings, surrendering six home runs as well. But the Tigers were able to pick up victories in three of those games and are planning for more of the same here tonight. In seven career starts against the Yankees, Scherzer is 6-1 with a 3.12 ERA, which includes the playoffs. Detroitr scored an average of 6.92 runs in those games.

Opposing Mad Max will be Brandon McCarthy, who has been a very nice pickup for the Yankees in one of their minor moves to date. McCarthy has won three of his four starts for New York, picking up victories in each of his last three appearances. Two of those wins came over the Texas Rangers, the other against the Cincinnati Reds. In his four starts for the Pinstripes McCarthy has surrendered just seven earned runs.

The Tigers have won three straight, sweeping Colorado during a weekend series. They still lead the American League Central by five games over the Kansas City Royals and have been an exceptional team on the road this season.

Surprising enough, the Yankees are not a good home team, sitting one game under the .500 mark this season. Much like the Tigers, New York has been very good in road games this year.

Tonight we like Scherzer to have another solid outing. The hard-throwing righty is 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA with 56 strikeouts in over 47 innings pitched in his last seven starts. The Tigers are scoring almost seven runs on average in each of those games as well.
