Duffy vs. Poirier set to headline UFC Dublin

Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who recently defeated Ivan Jorge via first-round submission at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow, has been matched with Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 77

Duffy (14-1) made his UFC debut in March, knocking out Jake Lindsey in the first round. He followed up that performance with a first-round triangle choke of Ivan Jorge at UFC Glasgow earlier this month. Duffy (14-1), a native of Donegal who’s now based at the renowned Tristar gym in Montreal, has taken the MMA world by storm since signing for the UFC this year.

Taking on the 26-year-old American in a main event will represent a significant step-up for Duffy, who has risen rapidly from from debutant to main event status in the UFC in the space of just four months.

Since losing to Conor McGregor in a featherweight bout last September, Poirier (18-4) has moved to the lightweight division where he has picked up back-to-back first-round stoppages of Yancy Medeiros and Carlos Diego Ferreira. The 26-year-old vet is now 5-1 with three fight-night bonuses in his past six fights. He told MMAFighting.com at International Fight Week that he wanted to fight in Ireland.
