Brooklyn Nets at Chicago Bulls

pay per head networkChicago Bulls center Joakim Noah will not play against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday due to a right ankle injury, the team announced on Tuesday.

Joakim Noah's lingering right ankle soreness will sideline him for Wednesday's Bulls-Nets matchup, forcing Kevin Garnett to find somebody else to fake-bite, er, antagonize.

Noah has been sidelined the last two days of practice after rolling his right ankle in consecutive games early last week. He did have 16 points in 33 minutes in Saturday’s loss to Golden State, but the Bulls are being careful with Noah, especially since Nets C Brook Lopez will miss Wednesday’s game as well.

Noah despises missing any action. Not matching up against Garnett makes it worse.

"He was my favorite player growing up," Noah said after sitting out Tuesday's practice at the Advocate Center. "So it's always easy to get up for playing against him. He's a helluva competitor. When he's gone, I'm going to miss playing against him."

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is also extremely familiar with Garnett, dating back to his days in Boston when he was an assistant coach with the Celtics. Thibodeau sidestepped the biting question and instead spun it in a complimentary manner for Garnett.

“All I know is Kevin tries to win, by any means necessary,” Thibodeau said. “He’s had a remarkable career. He’s one of the great competitors in the history of the league. I got a lot of respect for what he’s done.”

This summer, Thibodeau coached Nets' young big man Mason Plumlee with USA Basketball. Thibodeau said Plumlee talked about the "great conversations" he has had with Garnett.

"That type of leadership, that's how you win big in this league," Thibodeau said.

Thibodeau witnessed leadership, talent and gamesmanship in his three seasons coaching Garnett. He never misses an opportunity to laud the big man.

Noah had 16 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday after being a game-time decision. He is averaging 8.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 17 games this season.
