Detroit Pistons at San Antonio Spurs

pay per head networkAfter defeating the Washington Wizards on Saturday, the San Antonio Spurs are set to take on the Detroit Pistons.

After a rough stretch and a losing record in December, the Spurs have won two straight to open this current four-game homestand. San Antonio will close the stay on Friday against the Phoenix Suns.

On the Pistons' road journey this week will be the difficult task of stopping two future Hall of Fame power forwards who have different offensive games.

San Antonio's Tim Duncan could be hailed as the greatest power forward to ever play the game. His patented bank shot and inside game have made him a double-double machine and one of the most difficult covers in NBA history.

The Spurs will need to be on their game, as Kawhi Leonard will be out again, and Tony Parker is listed as questionable. The impact of their absence has been talked about at length already, so I'll spare the details, but the Spurs need them back before they can be at full strength to make a run for homecourt advantage in the playoffs. Tony Parker being back would help tremendously, but Leonard's inability to play still creates a multitude of problems.

San Antonio will also need to bring their A-game because the Pistons are 5-0 since waving forward Josh Smith. They've opened up their offensive attack, shooting over 30 three-pointers per game, and making a red-hot 42.8% from deep. It's unknown how long that hot shooting will keep up, but San Antonio will have to close out on shooters.

Detroit, which will visit the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, recorded yet another lopsided victory with Sunday's 114-95 home win over the Sacramento Kings. The Pistons' average margin of victory during this winning streak is 18.2 points.

On Sunday, Brandon Jennings dropped a season-high 35 points to lead the Pistons. Jennings shot 14-for-21, hit five 3-pointers and handed out seven assists. He has scored at least 25 points in three of the five wins during this stretch.

Andre Drummond had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Greg Monroe gave 14 points and 11 boards for Detroit, which won only five of its first 28 games this season before this five-game win streak.

The two teams have split the previous four meetings, but the Spurs are 7-3 in the last 10 encounters. San Antonio has won four straight as the host in this series.
