NBA: Denver Nuggets at Utah Jazz

pay per head networkThe Denver Nuggets enter the month of December with an 8-8 record, good for 10th in a loaded Western Conference.

The Denver Nuggets are starting to play like a playoff caliber team, winning six of their last seven games. On the season, the Nuggets are averaging 105.5 points on 44.2 percent shooting and are allowing 105.5 points on 44.7 percent shooting. Ty Lawson leads Denver with 16.3 points and 10 assists while Arron Afflalo is averaging 14.6 points on 45.3 percent shooting. Wilson Chandler is shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and Kenneth Faried has grabbed 23 rebounds in his last three games.

The Denver Nuggets are a top five team in points and rebounds but their defense has to drastically improve in order to take that next step. The good news for Denver fans is that the Nuggets are allowing 41.9 percent shooting in their last five games, almost four percent lower than the league average.

Utah (5-12) could have a difficult time topping the critical 100-point mark on Monday, as it has failed to do so in each of the previous seven games.

Gordon Hayward leads the team with 19.2 points per game, and Derrick Favors averages 15.9 on 56.3 percent shooting. As a whole, however, the Jazz have managed just 95.6 points per game - one of the lowest marks in the league. They stumbled to a 112-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, wasting a 30-point effort from Hayward.

Utah is looking to avoid its first six-game losing streak since March 10-19 and end the Western Conference's longest active losing streak.

The Jazz have lost four of the last five between the teams, including a 101-94 defeat in the most recent meeting April 12.

The Denver Nuggets are playing solid basketball at both ends of the court while the Jazz have been lost for the last week or so. Give me Denver in a pick em game.

A December schedule that features many of the top teams in the NBA will give the Nuggets a better answer as to whether they are good enough to make the postseason in 2014-15.
