“We’ve got to stay positive,” Orlando guard Evan Fournier told reporters. “We’ve got to still trust in ourselves. We had a very good record not too long ago. We’re still the same team. We’ve just got to get back to it.” The Magic have allowed an average of 103.7 points in the seven losses and their offense (89.7 in those games) has been inconsistent, including a 34.5 percent shooting performance at Atlanta on Monday. Philadelphia is coming off a 119-113 double-overtime loss to New York for its fifth defeat in six contests while falling to 2-22 on the road overall. Guard Ish Smith is making a major impact for the 76ers, averaging 16.8 points in 12 games since being acquired from New Orleans.

Although the Sixers have managed to win one of their three games in the past week, both defeats during this stretch have come in overtime.  Orlando has endured its fair share of struggles lately, losing seven of its last eight contests.

At Madison Square Garden on Monday, the Sixers took part in a double-overtime duel for the first time since December 2013.  Despite facing an 18-point hole in the third-quarter, they managed to climb their way out, and grab a three-point lead on the Knicks in the final minute of the fourth period.  Carmelo Anthony heaved a game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation.  Robert Covington drilled a clutch triple of his own - a bank shot -  late in the first overtime, warranting a second five-minute extra period.  It was at that stage of the tilt that New York seized control, and went on to secure a 119-113 victory.  Jahlil Okafor finished with a team-best 20 points.  Nerlens Noel racked up his 10th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.  Ish Smith notched a new career-high by distributing 16 assists.  He also scored 16 points.

Like the Sixers, Orlando was in action on Monday, helping the NBA recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Outscored by Atlanta 24-17 in the opening quarter, the Magic faced an uphill battle the rest of the evening.  At no point in the Southeast Division battle did Orlando hold the lead, falling 98-81.  Representing one of the few bright spots for Orlando, Aaron Gordon, the younger brother of former Sixer Drew Gordon, manufactured 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  The scoring total was the second-highest in the two-year career of Gordon, the fourth overall selection of the 2014 NBA Draft.  Nikola Vucevic, picked by the Sixers in the first round of the 2011 draft, continues to hold his own.  The 10-point, 11-rebound double-double he produced versus the Hawks was his 16th of the current campaign.  The Magic take the floor Wednesday having dropped three games in a row.
