Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell ready to ‘move forward’

Last month, Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert said reports of his relationship with Donovan Mitchell being strained in the wake of their coronavirus diagnosis were overblown.

Their boss Tuesday seemed to echo that sentiment. In a ZOOM conference call with reporters, Jazz executive vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey stated that his two star players are moving on from the drama that surrounded them in the wake of Gobert – the first NBA player to test positive for coronavirus – and Mitchell contracting COVID-19.

"They're ready to put this behind them, move forward, act professionally," Lindsey said.

"Look, the COVID-19 night was really unprecedented. It brought a microscope to our team, and we get it. With that said, we're very pleased with the collective makeup of our group, Donovan and Rudy in particular.

"We look forward to moving forward. They've said their piece to each other. They've both visited at the ownership level, at management level, at the coaches level, at the players level with each other."

Gobert had affirmed that he and Mitchell had spoken to each other for the first time in a while when he went on an Instagram Live with Taylor Rooks in early April.

"We're both ready to go out there and win a championship for this team," Gobert said then.

Said Lindsey on Tuesday: "At the most basic level, they know that they need each other to accomplish the goals we want to accomplish as being the last team left standing in the NBA."

Mitchell had stated in March that it took him "a while to cool off" at Gobert, seemingly due to the Frenchman's carelessness in the lead-up to their diagnoses.

It's unsure how either player contracted COVID-19, but both have recovered.
