Jaguars owner Shad Khan with no plans to trade CB Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey requested a trade after Week 2. We’re coming up on Week 5, and the star cornerback is still with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Khan saying they’re “still looking at what is the right thing for the Jaguars” gives him an out. If this becomes an unsustainable situation with Ramsey, there’s still time to deal him before the deadline.

But this isn’t the first time Khan has indicated he wants Ramsey to continue a Jaguar. He also said he was willing to give Ramsey a record contract extension for a cornerback.

Ramsey said after a Week 2 game, in which he got in a sideline argument with coach Doug Marrone, that he had a problem with the team’s front office. He felt disrespected by unspecified things said after the game. He told his agent after the game he wanted a trade. He has not backed off on that request.

Last week was an odd one for Ramsey. He dealt with the flu, then back and hamstring injuries. He left the team to see the birth of his child. Then he was inactive for Sunday’s game due to the injuries. Plenty wondered if Ramsey’s trade request and the injuries that kept him out of practice and last week’s game were connected.

There’s good reason the Jaguars wouldn’t want to move Ramsey.

He is a top player at a premium position. The Jaguars could deal him for picks, but at 2-2 they don’t feel this season is over and Ramsey is a building block for their franchise.

"I've met with him," Khan said. "I think my relationship with him is pretty good. This is not a request from me or a viewpoint from me. I have no issue, obviously. I'd love for him to be part of the Jaguars."

Jacksonville (2-2), which plays at Carolina (2-2) on Sunday, hopes winning will change Ramsey's outlook on the team.

After losing quarterback Nick Foles 10 plays into the season opener, the Jags have had chances to win each of the past three games. Backup Gardner Minshew has become a household name while helping the team win consecutive games for the first time in more than a year.

Ramsey's absence, though, was noticeable against the Broncos as Joe Flacco picked on Ramsey's replacement, second-year pro Tre Herndon.
