Browns rookie Myles Garrett in concussion protocol

Browns rookie defensive end Myles Garrett has been placed in concussion protocol.

The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft reported to the team’s facility complaining of concussion-like symptoms on Tuesday morning. Because of the timing, it’s unlikely he’ll play in Sunday’s game at London against the Minnesota Vikings. Given that the Browns leave for London tomorrow, it seems unlikely that Garrett will play this week. It typically takes at least a few days for a player in the concussion protocol to be cleared, and players who haven’t been cleared typically don’t travel to road games.

Cleveland has not announced whether Garrett will travel with the team for Sunday's game in London against the Minnesota Vikings but Garrett is not under any travel restrictions, and it's a possibility he'll fly with the team if he can clear concussion protocol following practice on Thursday.

Garrett missed Cleveland’s first four games with a sprained right ankle. The 21-year-old has four sacks in three games and has given Cleveland’s defense a huge lift. Flashing speed and dominant strength, Garrett has more than looked the part for Cleveland, a team that desperately needed to strike it rich with their first-round pick.

The 21-year-old has been steadily increasing his playing time, going from 19 plays in his debut to 33 against Houston on Oct. 15 to 57 in Sunday's loss to Tennessee.

Garrett’s injury is another setback for the winless Browns, who lost Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas for the remainder of the season with a torn triceps.
