Dani Carvajal without action indefinitely due to heart condition

Real Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal has been diagnosed with a heart desease and will be reportedly out of action for at least six weeks including Los Blancos match against Espanyol on Sunday at Santiago Bernabeu. This means that he will also be dropped out of Spain squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel.

The Spanish club released a statement on Sunday saying, “Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal, he has been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

With Marcelo (hamstring) and Theo Hernandez (dislocated shoulder) also struggling with their health, young talent Achraf Hakimi could well be thrust into action. The 18-year-old was only promoted to the first team in August, and while he has bags of potential, his lack of experience is a worry.

Earlier this month, the club agreed a deal with the Spanish defender to extend his contract by two years to 2022. He has played every minute for Zinedine Zidane’s side in the domestic league this season.

The 25-year-old had said after signing the deal, “I’m very grateful to the club. I’ve been fortunate to win every title with Real Madrid, and I’m looking forward to winning them again. I would like that. the day that I leave, everyone knows that I have given everything for this club and that they are proud.”

The right back has established himself as a key player for Real after they bought him back from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. Carvajal has lifted three Champions League trophies and one La Liga title with the club since returning.
