Hurricane Irma: Yankees vs Rays expected to be played at Citi Field

Due to Hurricane Irma, last Thursday was reported that the next game between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays will take place in Citi Field. The games was going to be originally played at Tropicana Field in Florida. This game is part of the three-game series between this two teams and will be played next week. The news were reported by a correspondent of the New York Post. The hurricane is currently a Category 4, but experts said it will reach a Category 5 soon.

The storm will arrive to Florida this weekend and will stay almost a week. The state has declared a red light because of the heavy rain, water-related risks and the strong winds. Irma can have enormous impacts going from infrastructure to communications. The NWS (National Weather Service) reported that the storm will leave some areas uninhabitable for days. On Tuesday, the NFL announced they were going to postpone the game between the Dolphins and the Buccaneers. The game was going to be played on Sunday but they rescheduled it until November.

On the other side, both team are getting prepared for the game, as they are American League East rivals. This game is important for both parties, as they want to win the battle for playoffs. Tampa is currently the 3rd on chart, 3.5 games after Minnesota Twins. Meanwhile, Yankees own the top in the Al with the wild-card. After this game, the Rays will play five more home games as they will receive the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs. They will play three games against the Red Sox and they are scheduled to start next weekend. The two games left will be against the Cubs. But now with Hurricane Irma’s issue, it is uncertain if they will play at Tropicana.
