South Africa’s top-ranked tennis player Kevin Anderson announced on Tuesday that he has parted ways with coach Neville Godwin.
“After four years, my coach Neville Godwin and I have decided to part ways,” said Anderson. “We remain great friends and it was simply a case of both of us looking for fresh challenges.
"We have hit great heights together, such as a top-10 ranking and a Grand Slam final, and I will be forever grateful. I wish Neville the best of luck and hope he wins ATP coach of the year as it would be much deserved.”
The 31-year-old Anderson had an incredible run in the US Open where made it to the final before losing to Spain’s Rafael Nadal in September. Anderson, at the time was the world No 32, was the lowest-ranked US Open men’s singles finalist since the inception of the ATP rankings in 1973.
Anderson reached a career-high ranking of 10th in October 2015 soon after beating Britain’s Andy Murray to reach the US Open quarterfinals.
Lying 14th in the latest ATP rankings, Anderson credited Godwin for the significant role he had played in lifting his game, as he prepared for a new stage of his career without the assistance of his compatriot.
