Trade: Justin Verlander will play with the Astros

On Thursday, the Houston Astros announce they acquire Justin Verlander form the Detroit Tigers. The team welcomed the player on their social networks. The deal was not going to happen, but apparently both sides got an agreement. The trade was also reported by a Detroit Free Press´corresponsal. The trade include players as Daz Cameron, Jake Rogers and Franklin Perez. That will play with the Tigers next season. Part of the agreement included that TIgers will pay $10 million to Verlander, as the remaining salary of the original deal.

The 34-year-old player will receive a payment of $28 million in the next 2 seasons. Meanwhile, the 2020 payment has not been established yet. Before the Astros´deal, they were rumors that Verlander will played with the Chicago Cubs, but that deal never happened. The player has played more than 10 seasons with the team, and the trade will be an opportunity of a fresh start. He has won awards as the Cy Young Award, six All-Star selections and an American League MVP.

Statistically talking, his best year was the season of 2012. In 34 starts, he had an 3.04 ERA, strikeout 254 batters and 1.00 WHIP. He showed a great stability as the years passed. However, 2017 was a good year for him as in 28 starts he had a 3.82 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. If he maintains the quality, he will receive an extra $28 million in 2019 season. When it comes to a decision like this, Verlander has showed his abilities. He has evolved as a batter and as a pitcher, but he isn't the amazing player he was 5 years ago. His fastest ball was in 2016, when he threw at a velocity of 93.5 mph. He is known as one of the strongest starters and the team had a lot of expectations for him and the coming season.
