Who’s soccer is this anyway?

It is said nowadays that soccer is the evolving sport in the USA, starting with the local league, in which many franchises have done important economic investments, such as the purchase of important european players and building new stadiums, even soccer legends like David Beckham want to invest and create new teams, new
franchises. This last character in particular want to create a soccer team in Miami, well known for its big latino population, who loves soccer.

And that is a very important fact that has to be considered in this regard. Latino communities all over the US have been increasing, we have the well known mexican population, salvadorans have an important community in the west coast, and so on and so forth.
This is important because these fans are the majority of the people that go to the games nowadays, which is good for the MLS; but in some way it can be tricky for the National team, especially for the World Cup Qualifiers that are in game right now.

Why tricky? Well, because when the National Team plays in the US, specially when the games take place like in New Jersey, Houston, California, Orlando, etc.
It doesn’t really feels like they are the local team, there are usually a big amount of fans cheering for the opposite team, specially when Mexico and Costa Rica are the ones they are playing against.

The best example of this was the most recent home game against Costa Rica, that took place in the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. That night, at least 40% of the fans present at the venue where ‘ticos’. Sometimes you were not able to hear the US fans. That can be quite shocking, psychologically speaking, for the players, and it works in both ways, because when Costa Rica scored their first goal they got so excited and identified with the audience that the US team could have felt overwhelmed. Was such the atmosphere that the ones managed by Bruce Arena couldn't recover and the final score reflected how the US fans felt with all the ‘ticos’ in the Arena, 0-2 for Costa Rica to take the win and the three points.
