Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette renew their rivalry with a little Tuesday night Fun Belt action.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves have won three straight games and hope to remain undefeated in the Sun Belt. Both teams are working on winning streaks following some tough out-of-conference scheduling. After dropping games to Tennessee and Miami by a combined 75-39 in Weeks 2 and 3, the Red Wolves took down Utah State in overtime and have won their first two conference games against Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia State by a combined 80-24. In the 52-10 victory over GSU, quarterback Fredi Knighten completed 20 of 26 passes and compiled 323 total yards and four touchdowns.
Louisiana-Lafayette opened the year with a 45-6 win over Southern, but the next three games against Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss and Boise State saw an average margin of defeat of 31.3 points. But like the Red Wolves, the Ragin' Cajuns have righted the ship in conference action. They snuck past Georgia State, 34-31, and then manhandled Texas State, 34-10.
The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are also undefeated in conference play. Louisiana-Lafayette’s offense has picked up the pace recently and it all starts with QB Terrance Broadway, who is completing 60.7 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 332 yards and a score. While turnover prone, the Ragin’ Cajuns have won 10 of their last 12 games SU when Broadway throws a touchdown pass. Elijah McGuire does everything for Louisiana-Lafayette, as he leads the way with 395 rushing yards and four touchdowns and is second on the team with 242 receiving yards and a touchdown. McGuire has scored at least one touchdown in three straight games. Defensively, the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns allow 30.8 points, 426.7 yards, and they’ve forced three turnovers and 11 sacks. Trae Johnson leads the Ragin’ Cajuns with 35 tackles and Christian Ringo has eight tackles for loss.
