San Jose Sharks at Calgary Flames

San Jose Sharks at Calgary FlamesThe San Jose Sharks are on the ice tonight as they play at the Calgary Flames.
The teams have split their first two meetings, with each club winning at home.
While San Jose has won only six of 18 games played at home, the team has won 13 of 21 on the road.

The San Jose Sharks sit in fifth place in the Pacific division heading into action on Monday night and while they are just six points back of the Coyotes for second they haven’t looked the part of a playoff contender this season. The Sharks are as inconsistent as they come and very tough to handicap on a nightly basis but their play on the road has been the bright spot of their season and they’ll be looking to find their 14th road win of the year tonight against the Flames. Martin Jones is expected to start as he will go up against Karri Ramo. San Jose is 13-6-2 on the road this season while the Flames are 13-8 at home and also have 40 points through 40 games.

The Flames were expected to do some damage in the Pacific this season and while they still could very well go on a run and make the playoffs they have certainly been one of the league’s biggest underachievers. Calgary has a lot of youth at its core and they will be a talented bunch for many years if they can continue to grow and add a few pieces but that may also mean sacrificing some current top end players at the trade deadline in order to acquire assets and unless they can right the ship soon that may be their only course of action. Calgary is a slight favourite here and while San Jose has been good on the road I like the Flames in this spot to grab two big points.
