The Washington Capitals attempt to make their first losing streak of the season a brief one when they continue their five-game road trip Tuesday against the Boston Bruins. The Capitals have been dominant in winning the last four meetings between these teams heading into Tuesday night's matchup in Boston.

Washington began its season-high trek in search of a 10th consecutive victory but fell 4-2 at Carolina on Thursday and dropped a 5-4 decision in a shootout at Columbus two days later, giving it back-to-back defeats for the first time in 2015-16. Washington (28-7-3) had a nine-game win streak snapped with Thursday's 4-2 defeat to Carolina before falling 5-4 in a shootout to Columbus two nights later.

Boston (20-13-4) lost for the fourth time in five games with a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Montreal on Friday in the Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium. Brad Marchand, who leads the Bruins with 15 goals, will miss Tuesday's contest as he continues to serve his four-game suspension for clipping Ottawa's Mark Borowiecki. Washington defenseman John Carlson highlighted a 4-1 victory over Boston on Nov. 5 with a goal and an assist, but is expected to miss his fifth straight game with a lower-body injury.

The Capitals look to get back in the win column and extend their lead in the Metro division as they head into Boston to battle the Bruins who play their first game after losing in the Winter Classic. The Washington Capitals have been the class of the Eastern Conference for the better part of a month now thanks to their impressive winning ways and Montreal’s tailspin and as we approach the mid way point of the season the Caps have their sights set on once again claiming the President’s Trophy. However, there seems to be a different feel to this Caps group as they look poised to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup as they have the best goalie in the league this season in Braden Holtby and a well balanced group that can score with all four lines. The Caps will look for their 14th road win of the season tonight as Holtby will square off with Tuukka Rask. The Bruins head back indoors after a tough loss to the Canadiens at Gillette Stadium on New Year’s Day and they have had quite a bit of time to dwell on it as this is their first action since then and face a tough task with the Caps in town. Boston has been floating in the middle of the Atlantic division for most of the season and while they haven’t been playing their best of late they are still sitting just three points out of a playoff spot and could very well jump back in with a victory tonight.

These teams have the league's best power plays, with Boston at 28.6 percent and Washington at 25.6.
